In the US, what I consider a "glitch" has kept these off the FDA-approved prescription list for depression, while they are considered an important part of treatment for depression in Europe. It may be because it is important to keep the individual tablets individually wrapped and free of moisture. I switched from Prozak many years ago to SAM-e, and have never had any side effects. My favored brand was always available in Costco, but there are supply issues now, so I found these on Amazon and have been using them with no problems. They are well packaged, which is very important, and the price is reasonable. It's pretty easy to find scientific information about these, and I have found this brand to be a good replacement for my former brand.It helps with knee pain and mobility.Edit: Below is the original review. My suspicion was that the manufacturing facility in Italy was attempting to pass off fake product. Doctor's Best and NatureMade both source these caplets from the exact same people and I've had issues with both of them see below. As it happens, I did a little experiment and baked the replacement product that Doctor's Best sent me last week in the oven at 175 degrees for 45 minutes and the exact same thing happened to the pill. It turned brown and oozed out of the enteric coating. So this was clearly a heat issue - in transit or storage (or both) and likely not the fault of Doctor's Best (or NatureMade).I like the product and recommend that if you buy it, you check caplets carefully before ingesting to see if they've been stored in a hot place.***************************************************************************************************************************************************************I've been purchasing SAM-e since 2007 from retailers like Costco (Nature Made) and Amazon.com (usually Doctor's Best) and even eBay (both aforementioned brands) on occasion.One time in about 2010 I noticed that some Nature Made SAM-e 400mg pills in the blister packs were discolored and soft to the touch. Where normal SAM-e caplets are rock hard and the substance inside is white if you snap one open, these had a darker brown caplet coating and inside was a caramel-like soft, pliable substance. I chalked this up to a freak occurrence and mostly forgot about it.Well, it just happened again with the Doctor's Best brand SAM-e 400mg pills I purchased from Amazon (verified above) and I was smart enough to take pictures this time. I also contacted Doctor's Best but they have not yet replied. Please see attached photos. On the right is the discolored caplet which is easy to slice into with a knife. On the left is the normal tablet which is too hard to slide a knife into, and the pill snaps in half instead like it should.This is HIGHLY disturbing. What I'm seeing here is not a case of some caplets spoiling or being exposed to moisture. The blister pack was totally sealed. This is an attempt to pass off a mystery substance for SAM-e, and it has now occurred with two different brands over the span of 6 years. Of note, both of these brands source their product from the same supplier in Italy, so that is the likely culprit - BUT - it doesn't matter to me, the consumer - when I'm getting creepy looking mysterious substances inside sealed foil blister packs from an otherwise reputable source of dietary supplements.This is also HIGHLY unacceptable. I would say that about 10-20% of the caplets in box are "defective" (or have been tampered with).I will update review when I have heard back from the analytical lab where I am dropping this off on Monday as well as with whatever response I get from Doctor's Best. Until then, I would avoid the caplet form of SAM-e from Doctor's Best or Nature Made (or anyone else whose product is said to be sourced from Italy).Instead of taking prescriptions for depression which will make one addicted SamE is great to control and help mind & body to stay calm keep one’s mind clear and not lose control. 1,600 mg on cases where it gets bad. When I first bought this the lady behind the counter was surprise that a doctor advised me on this. She said what a great Dr.I don’t know how this works as an antidepressant, as I am treatment resistant to antidepressants for my depression, however antidepressants are used to treat OCD. I was on a prescription antidepressant for my OCD, but had very bad side effects and couldn’t be on them anymore. Someone told me about this product and it works just as good as my prescription without the side effects. I’m on 1600 mg of the SAMe, which I worked up to. I started with 400mg and each week added 400mg until I reached the recommended dose of 1600mg. I highly recommend this for OCD, but as I am treatment resistant for my depression, I’m not sure how effective it is, but believe it is worth a shot if it works as good as a prescription for my OCD.If you have the MTHFR gene, you should try this before trying Zoloft. Make sure you take it with the additional B vitamins needed. This has been absolutely life saving for me during my struggle with PMDD and Postpartum Depression.I learned about Sam-E a couple of decades ago, as my senior dogs were put on a pain medication that is wretched on liver functions. This product works well and I wrap it with a small slice of deli turkey. The dogs readily swallow it.I take one a day usually and really notice my mood lifted and my body less painful. I am very sensitive so if you are used to stronger meds you might miss the change.Non voglio essere frettolosa nel giudizio ma mi pare che questa formulazione a base di ademetionina (integratore che mi è sempre piaciuto moltissimo e ho sempre utilizzato con il nome di Samyr o Same Fast) mi faccia male allo stomaco. Dolori tipo gastritici. Fatemi sapere se anche per voi l'effetto è lo stesso. Se così fosse è un peccato perché il Same per me è fantastico. Aggiorno la recensione per correttezza: non è questo prodotto che provocava gastrite.Muy caro, poca cantidad, cápsulas enormes en una caja inmensa para la cantidad que viene pero buen producto.Prodotto indispensabile per benessere a 360° Come quasi tutti gli integratori non è possibile osservare risultati a breve termine.
